Plateau spends whopping N300 million for Eid-El-Fitr palliatives

•Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State

With barely a day remaining until the end of the 2026 Ramadan fasting season, Plateau State government has spent a whopping sum of N300 million to procure palliatives for the Muslim Ummah to enhance Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The Eid-el-Fitr celebration marks the grand finale of the 30-day Ramadan fasting period, in accordance with Islamic doctrine, reports The Guardian.

The specified amount of money was used to purchase assorted food items for distribution across the 17 local government areas of Plateau.

The food commodities distributed include rice, millets, and spaghetti.

The Special Adviser to Governor Caleb Mutfwang on Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Yahaya Kanam, who also serves as the Chairman of the Sallah Palliative Distribution Committee on the Plateau, made the announcement on Tuesday in Jos.

Kanam disclosed that the beneficiaries included vulnerable women, numerous youths, and clergymen.

He said 24 liaison officers, earlier appointed by Governor Mutfwang from various constituencies of the local government, were also engaged in profiling beneficiaries to enhance transparency and accountability in the distribution of palliative care.

“Today, we gather here as is customary during every Sallah, to celebrate and demonstrate the mercy, love, and benevolence of the good government of Plateau State towards the Muslim community. We have been provided with some palliatives to share, showing that we stand united as one.

“This year’s distribution is quite significant and different. Every Christmas, we realise that the Muslim Ummah also benefits from the Christmas palliative initiative. Christians will benefit from it too”, Kanam stated.

The committee chairman further acknowledged that the governor has graciously given up to N300 million for this exercise.

According to him, “We are not God, so we cannot capture everybody. But what we can do as a government, we should try as much as possible to do it honestly and diligently.

As you can see, these grains are not the only grains here. We are progressing stage by stage to ensure we capture almost everyone.

He also urged the Muslim Ummah to unite as one and show loyalty and support for the current administration in the state, noting that the palliatives were funded by taxpayers’ money.
