Former Delta Adviser Prof. Ugwumba resigns from APC

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 28, 2026 601 Minutes read0

•Professor Rukevwe Ugwumba

Former Special Adviser on Health to the Delta State Government, Olorogun Prof. (Mrs.) Rukevwe Ugwumba, has resigned her membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing alleged injustice, marginalisation and the controversial conduct of the party’s senatorial primaries in Delta State.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of APC Uwheru Ward 9 in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Prof. Ugwumba said the distribution of the “dividends of democracy” within the party had unfairly excluded loyal members and supporters who worked tirelessly to build the APC in Delta State.

She particularly condemned what she described as the chaotic senate primaries, which she said undermined the interests and political aspirations of the Urhobo people, reports The Nation.

Prof. Ugwumba, who spoke while on a business trip to Dubai, said her decision followed consultations with former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, and other political leaders across Delta Central and beyond.

According to her, the political future of the Urhobo nation and her supporters would be better protected outside the APC.

“I have decided that we are better served outside the APC, considering our experiences as a people,” she stated.

She praised Senator Omo-Agege for what she described as his exceptional leadership and foresight, saying history would remember him for “seeing tomorrow” and leaving at the right time.

Prof. Ugwumba lamented that despite her personal sacrifices, investments and commitment to the APC during the 2023 elections, neither she nor her supporters received recognition or reward from the party.

“This was the easiest decision for me to make today, having waited for my principal, to whom I remain loyal,” she added.

She further declared that Delta Central and Delta State would “regain their pride of place in 2027 and beyond.”

The former health adviser concluded by asking the APC leadership to immediately remove her name from the party’s membership register.
