•Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
Commuters and motorists were trapped for several hours in a gridlock at the Ibadan, Oyo State end of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, which spanned from the Soka area of the highway and reached beyond the Toll Gate today.
This followed a protest over the demolition of houses around the Circular Road area that began early in the day, and was reportedly staged by residents and property owners affected by the demolition, reports The PUNCH.
The protesters blocked sections of the expressway, causing a standstill that left hundreds of travellers and commercial drivers stranded.
The traffic stretched several kilometres, with many commuters forced to trek long distances to beat the gridlock.
Motorists along the Interchange area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway were similarly trapped yesterday in several hours of gridlock due to ongoing construction work.
This was barely 24 hours after a protest by some residents of Oyo State over the planned expansion of the Circular Road grounded traffic along the expressway.
The gridlock, which began in the early hours of yesterday and lasted till evening, was reported to have extended to the adjoining Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway and stretched from the Ogere area to the Lufwape section of the expressway.
