Hausa community leaders in Oyo hail Olubadan’s nullification of Sarkin Sasa title

•Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin

The Council of Hausa community leaders in Oyo State has said it is fully in support of the declaration of the title of Sarkin Sasa as illegal by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin.

The council also said it would pay a courtesy visit to Olubadan’s palace to apologise and discuss the issue of the removal of the new Sarkin Sasa, Alhaji Ahmad Haruna Maiyasin to replace him with his brother, Awal Muhammad, the Tafidan Sasa, reports The Guardian.

The Seriki Hausa of Oyo town, Muhammad Gali Kano, made these known while speaking to journalists on behalf of the Council of Hausa community leaders at the end of their emergency meeting held at Sabo in Ibadan.

He said that the Hausa community in Oyo State are in total support of the decision of the Olubadan that no one should parade himself as Sarkin Sasa henceforth.

“We are under the authority of Olubadan of Ibadanland. It is a matter that cannot be solved at this meeting.

It is too bad for the son of the Sarkin Sasa to parade himself as the new Sarkin Sasa without the approval of Olubadan,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Olubadan of Ibadanland has warned compound heads, popularly known as Mogajis and village heads, also referred to as Baales, against land-grabbing and insubordination to elders within their families.

He gave the warning during the installation of nine compound and two village heads in his Palace at Oke-Aremo in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Gbenga Ayoade, yesterday in Ibadan, further warned them to ensure that peace reigns supreme in their domains, as no meaningful development can be achieved without peace.
