Trump’s victory a lesson in the art of rising after every fall – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 6, 2024 3252 Minutes read0

•Atiku

Former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has commended the process that led to the outcome of US Presidential election.

The Republican candidate, Donald Trump defeated the Democrat candidate, a sitting Vice President Kamala Harris, to be re-elected as the 47th president of the United States of America.

In his congratulatory message, Atiku hailed Americans noting that their unwavering faith in the power of democracy and the sanctity of the ballot has once again shown the world the true might of the people’s voice.

Atiku was a presidential candidate of the Action Congress in the 2007 presidential election coming in third to Umaru Yar’Adua of the PDP and Muhammadu Buhari of the ANPP.

He contested the presidential primaries of the People’s Democratic Party during the 2011 presidential election losing out to incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

He joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, IN 2014 and contested the presidential primaries in 2015 losing to former president Muhammadu Buhari.

In 2017, he returned to the Peoples Democratic Party and was the party presidential candidate during the 2019 presidential election, again losing to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

In May 2022, he was chosen as the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate again, this time for the 2023 general election after he defeated Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, in the primaries. He came in second in the general election, being defeated by Bola Tinubu.

Similarly, the U.S president-elect Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to President Joe Biden and now defeated Kamala Harris in 2024 election.

Happy with this development, Atiku said that Trump’s victory is a lesson in the art of rising after every fall.

He appealed to Trump to stand resolute in ensuring free and fair elections in Nigeria and the world in general.

His words: “I closely followed the presidential election in the United States of America, watching with bated breath as the nation decided its future.

“It is with even greater satisfaction that I now reflect on the result, which heralds a resounding victory for President Donald J. Trump and the Republican Party.

“This triumph, without a doubt, will stand as an enduring testament to the resilience and vitality of the democratic process – a timeless reminder that democracy, with all its trials and tribulations, remains a force for good in the world.

“The narrative of President Trump’s political journey, marked by his struggles and triumphs, shall serve as an inspiring parable of courage in the face of adversity — a lesson in the art of rising after every fall, and ultimately, emerging victorious.

“As the world rejoices in the euphoria of his remarkable comeback, it is to be hoped that President Trump will continue his resolute advocacy for credible elections worldwide and remain steadfast in dismantling anti-democratic forces wherever they may lurk.

“The lesson for us in Nigeria is the integrity of the process that ensures a credible outcome. It is the expectation of every Nigerian that the Trump administration will stand resolute in ensuring free and fair elections in Nigeria and other places in the world.

“I also extend my warm congratulations to the people of the United States, whose unwavering faith in the power of democracy and the sanctity of the ballot has once again shown the world the true might of the people’s voice”.
