Tragedy struck when a 3-storey building, under construction at No 1 Isalegangan Street by Ita-faji, Lagos Island Local Government, collapsed in the early hours amidst heavy downpour.

Fortunately, there was no casualty recorded in the incident, reports Vanguard.

The collapse, sent panic among residents of the community, running helter skelter in the process.

According to eyewitness, the building under construction, caved-in at about 10:15am during the early morning downpour in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident.

He however, stated that there was no casualty or injury recorded during the incident as emergency officials were on ground to ensure safety of lives and property in the area.

As of press time 6pm, men LASEMA officials were seen removing the rubble.

“Further investigation is ongoing to determine the immediate and remote cause of the collapse,” Oke-Osanyitolu stated.

He said anyone found culpable would be sanctioned accordingly.

The heavy rainfall which had much impact on the collapsed building, also resulted in traffic gridlock across Lagos metropolis as a result of flooding on the highways.
