How I spent my youthful years chasing love – Actress and BBNaija host, Toke Makinwa

•Toke Makinwa

Actress and show host, Toke Makinwa has shared a candid reflection of her youthful devotion, revealing that she spent her entire youthful years focusing on a single relationship.

Sharing her story on ‘Cocktails and Takeaways’, Makinwa noted that she didn’t like her 20s.

“I don’t think I liked my twenties. I don’t think I knew what I was doing because I was in love with one man in my 20s. I spent my entire 20s following one man. I’m however grateful that I’m where I am today because my experience has shaped me”.

Makinwa then advised young people to avoid getting married in their early or mid-twenties.

“I tell young people that they have no business getting married in their early or mid-twenties. Figure out yourself. Know yourself first,” Makinwa emphasised on ‘Cocktails and Takeaways’.

Toke Makinwa lost both her parents in a gas explosion when she was 8 years old. On January 15, 2014, Makinwa married Maje Ayida whom she had been involved with for eight years prior to their wedding.

In 2015, she separated from Ayida after discovering that he had impregnated his ex-girlfriend.

On October 5, 2017, Makinwa’s marriage to Ayida was dissolved by a Lagos High Court on the grounds that Ayida committed adultery.

At the end of Big Brother Naija season 6, which she served as a host, she disclosed that she had lost her elder sister.

In March 2022, she suggested that anyone doubting her claim to fame should research about her achievements using Google.
