I regret stepping down for Peter Obi as Labour Party presidential candidate in 2023 – Faduri

A presidential aspirant of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Mr. Faduri Oluwadare Joseph (a.k.a Fadojoe), has expressed regret over stepping down for Mr. Peter Obi as the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in 2023.

Faduri made this revelation during a chat with newsmen and support groups in Ibadan, saying he stepped down for Obi because he presented himself as “a different Nigerian politician”.

The US-trained nurse-turned-politician explained that he was the first to purchase the LP presidential nomination form with N40 million, before Obi decamped to the party five months to the presidential election in late 2022, reports Daily Independent.

Faduri added that the Julius Abure-led national executives of the LP prevailed on him to step down for Obi, “who presented himself as someone who has the integrity and capacity to bring about the Nigeria of my dream”.

He said he agreed to step down for Obi without the N40 million being refunded and mobilised support for Obi in the United States.

However, Faduri expressed regret that Obi “has consistently proven that he is not different from the old politicians who plundered Nigeria into the socio-economic and political crises the country is confronted with”.

Faduri declared that Nigerians will not vote for old-order politicians in the 2027 polls, insisting it’s the turn of the youths to produce Nigeria’s next president.

He promised to reverse anti-masses economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration if elected, including fuel subsidy removal and tax reforms.

Faduri vowed to run a people-oriented government, saying: “I will reverse fuel price to N200 per liter. Subsidy will be restored with proper monitoring. No Nigerian citizen, including government officials, will travel abroad for medical treatment. Politicians and public office holders’ children will not be allowed to school abroad.”

He urged Nigerian youths to support his aspiration, promising to tackle insecurity and create jobs.
