Lagos govt impounds over 100 vehicles parked, operating illegally on bridges

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 27, 2023 4331 Minutes read0

Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in a continuation of enforcement operations has impounded over 100 private/commercial vehicles operating illegal parking/garages on bridges across the state.

Hon. Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State on Transportation who led the enforcement operations disclosed that the exercise was carried out following the expiration of a 7-day ‘Vacation Order’ issued on Monday 16, October, 2023 to motorists/commercial bus drivers to desist from parking and using bridges for garages, reports Daily Independent.

Hon. Giwa disclosed further that the enforcement operations was aimed to totally remove every infractions impeding the free flow of traffic on bridges.

He confirmed that these over 100 private/commercial vehicles were impounded at Ejalonibu, Obalende, Apongbon Ebute-Ero, Idumota (Cater) bridges on Lagos Island.

He described it as nauseating, seeing those private/commercial bus drivers constitute public nuisance by operating illegal parking/garages on to bridges, thereby causing avoidable traffic gridlock and inconveniencing other motorists and road users.

According to Hon. Giwa “The enforcement operations would be a continuous exercise until zero tolerance on activities of these commercial bus drivers operating illegal parking/garages on top bridges is achieved in line with the ‘Theme+’ agenda of the present administration”

“We would continue to ensure free flow of traffic movement by scaling up our enforcement and clampdown operations on these stubborn private/commercial bus drivers”

He maintained that activities of these recalcitrants commercial bus drivers is contrary to provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.

He however revealed that all these contravened vehicles (private/commercial) would be immediately charged to the Lagos State Mobile Court for prosecutions.
