The Movement for National Reformation (MNR) has sent out words to celebrate a distinguished patriot, veteran pro-democracy campaigner, and former National Secretary of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Chief Ayo Opadokun, as he clocks 80 today.

The celebration was contained in a statement issued today by MNR and signed by its General Secretary, Dr. Philip Idaewor.

The statement made available to The Frontier read:

“The Movement for National Reformation (MNR) warmly celebrates Chief Ayo Opadokun, distinguished patriot, veteran pro-democracy campaigner, and former National Secretary of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), on this occasion of his 80th birthday.

“As Chief Opadokun marks this remarkable milestone, the MNR joins Nigerian nationalists and all prodemocracy campaigners and activists and friends of democracy around the world in honouring a man whose life has been defined by courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the struggle for freedom, justice, and democratic governance.

“His role in the pro-democracy movement and his contributions as a leading figure in NADECO remain an enduring part of Nigeria’s democratic history.

“Chief Opadokun stood firm during some of the most difficult periods in Nigeria’s struggle for political liberties and democratic governance. Through personal sacrifice and steadfast advocacy, he helped sustain the national quest for the restoration of democratic rule and the defence of the people’s mandate as the anchor of democracy.

“The MNR recognises Chief Opadokun not only as a prodemocracy activist but also as a moral voice whose dedication to principled leadership and national renewal has remained consistent over the decades.

“Chief Opadokun’s lifetime commitment to the doctrine of an equitably restructured Nigeria, continues to inspire all who long to see and live in a country where justice indeed reign supreme for all citizens and Nigeria’s constituent ethnic Nationalities.

“As he celebrates eighty years of purposeful living, we salute his resilience, wisdom, and exemplary service to the Nigerian nation.

“We pray that Almighty God grants him continued good health, strength, and many more years to share his experience and guidance in the ongoing search for a path to the emergence of a just, united, and prosperous Nigeria.

“On behalf of the leadership and members of the Movement for National Reformation, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Chief Ayo Opadokun, his family, associates, and all those who have walked with him in the democratic struggle.

Happy 80th Birthday, Chief Ayo Opadokun. Your legacy of sacrifice, courage, and service remains a beacon of hope for our nation.”
