My wife had 5 miscarriages, ectopic pregnancy – Renowned Gospel singer Nathaniel Bassey opens up

Popular Gospel singer and prolific trumpeter, Nathaniel Bassey has opened up about a deeply personal experience, revealing that his wife Sarah suffered five miscarriages, including an ectopic pregnancy, during a period he was leading the Hallelujah Challenge.

The October 2025 edition of the Hallelujah Challenge runs for 25 days, from October 7 to 31, with each day’s session starting at 11:59 p.m.

The virtual programme features worship, praise, prayer, and fasting, drawing thousands of participants globally.

This year also marks the eighth anniversary of the Hallelujah Challenge, as Bassey noted yesterday.

Speaking during the early hours of yesterday while leading the ongoing edition, Bassey reflected on how he continued to minister despite personal grief, often returning to lead worship even while his wife was hospitalised.

“As men of God and ministers, we have heard a lot of stories. People come to me and say, ‘Pastor Nathaniel, you don’t understand…’”

“My wife will have to forgive me. Do you know there were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage, and nobody knew? I would still come online to praise and dance,” he said.

“A few years ago, she was in the hospital with an ectopic pregnancy. I would leave, lead praise and worship online, then return to the hospital, and the nurses attending to her would tell me, ‘It was powerful tonight.’ Not one, not two, not three or four pregnancies, but five.”

Pastor Nathaniel Bassey is married to Sarah Bassey. The couple got married in 2013.

Bassey urged believers to remain steadfast in their faith regardless of challenges, saying, “So when people say, ‘Where is God?’ I say, I understand. God is faithful. One of the words He gave us was, ‘Don’t give up on God.’”

Bassey emphasised the importance of unwavering faith, reminding believers that God’s promises are never broken. He said his life is proof that even in pain, God remains faithful.
