•Nigeria at the 2026 African Cycling Champs

Nigeria have clinched a total of 16 medals at the 2026 Confederation of African Cycling Para-Track and Track African Championships in Abuja.

The championship, staged at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome, brought together elite cyclists from across the continent, including Egypt, Kenya, South Africa, Algeria and hosts Nigeria, reports The PUNCH.

After two days of competition, Nigeria lead the medals table with nine gold, five silver and two bronze medals, placing them ahead of several of Africa’s traditional cycling powerhouses.

Egypt sit in second place with 14 medals, while Kenya occupy third with nine.

South Africa and Algeria complete the top five in the standings.

The strong performances by the Nigerian contingent have been greeted with enthusiasm from home supporters at the velodrome, with riders impressing in speed, endurance and technical execution throughout the event.

The competition has also drawn praise for the quality of facilities in Abuja, with the velodrome providing a high-standard platform for continental competition.

Nigeria have now hosted the championships in both 2021 and 2023, further reinforcing their growing status as a key destination for African cycling events.

This year’s edition attracted more than 100 cyclists from eight countries, all competing for medals, ranking points and continental recognition.
