A 71-year-old man, Dayo Komolafe, has been crushed to death by a 23-year-old motorcyclist, Temi Oluwole, in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

The motorcyclist was alleged to have driven his motorcycle on a public highway dangerously and recklessly, reports Vanguard.

Meanwhile, Oluwole has been consequently arraigned before an Akure Magistrate court for murder.

He was said to have caused the death of the victim through dangerous and reckless driving.

The prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, said the defendant allegedly committed the offence on August 27, 2024, at about 8:00 pm at Leo Junction, along Oyemekun Road, Akure.

Akintimehin said the defendant allegedly, having no regard for all circumstances of other road users, caused the death of a 71-year-old man, Dayo Komolafe, in front of his house.

Oluwole was docked on a three-count charge of reckless driving; causing death, driving without a valid licence and document on demand.

Akintimehin told the court that Oluwole on the aforementioned day, being the rider of a blue TVS motorcycle with number plate FAB117VO, allegedly drove it on a public highway dangerously and recklessly.

He said the offence contravened Sections 18(c), 7(1), and 36 (1)(P) of the Road Traffic Act, Vol. II, Cap 136 Vol. 3 of Ondo State, 2006

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The defence counsel, Mr Kehinde Akintelure, asked the court to admit his client to bail on liberal terms.

He said the family of the defendant and that of the deceased are already deliberating on how to settle the matter out of court amicably.

Magistrate Kolawole Aro therefore granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with one surety in like sum.
