Pandemonium at Lagos Assembly as lawmakers, staff resist DSS move to halt plenary •VIDEO

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 17, 2025 2010 Minutes read0

The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken custody of the Lagos State House of Assembly complex following the alleged illegal removal of Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa as Speaker of the House.

The secret police were present at the assembly premises, reports The Guardian.

For over one hour, the Speaker, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, was not allowed into her office, owing to the directive of the secret police.

In solidarity, lawmakers and staff of the Assembly came out to support the speaker.

At 12:30 pm, the door of the chamber was opened, and staff of the Assembly were chanting, “We want you Meranda” as they trooped into the chamber.

While the plenary was about to commence, the DSS barged into the chamber in an attempt to stop the plenary.

Immediately, the staff and House of Assembly revolted and overthrew the DSS, and the plenary commenced.
