A woman, Adebimpe, has pleaded with Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, to end the relationship between her and her husband, Adekola, whom she alleged was irresponsible and a brute.
Adebimpe said she walked out of her marriage when Adekola almost snuffed life out of her with his constant beatings.
The plaintiff who stated that she had remarried prayed the court to grant her husband custody of their children but grant her free access to them.
She promised to be available any time their children needed her attention.
Adekola did not make an appearance in court despite being served, a court summon, and court hearing.
Adebimpe, in her evidence, said, “My husband and I never shared any intimacy throughout the time our marriage lasted.
“He was always on my neck, and we hardly agreed on anything.
“My husband always claimed to be the head of the home but never lived up to his expectation.
“He demanded for respect despite being irresponsible and negligent of my needs and that of our children.
“I did tell him that people, including husbands and fathers, earn respect through responsible acts and do not demand for it.
“He was fond of punching me at the slightest disagreement and would leave me nursing bruises.
“I always reported him to my parents who never ceased to counsel him, but he failed to change.
“I moved out of his house when I could no longer tolerate his beatings, which were severe.
“My lord, l met and got married to a man who loves and values me.
“I, therefore, pray that this honourable court dissolves our marriage.
“Adekola can have custody of our children, but I appeal that I have access to them.
“I promise to be there for them whenever they need my attention.”
The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served the defendant.
