ROMANCE GONE SOUR: My husband kept it a secret that he has another wife, can’t father a child

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 10, 2024 3352 Minutes read0

A woman, Adebisi has dragged her husband, Alade, before Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, seeking that it dissolves their wedlock on the account that the latter is deceitful and unable to father a child.

Adebisi told the court that Alade concealed some vital information from her, thereby misleading her.

According to the plaintiff, the defendant deceitfully lured her into marriage with him without informing her that he already had a wife.

Adebisi stated that if she were to have been in the know of this, she would never have gone into a wedlock with Alade.

She also said that her husband kept the truth of his health status away from her.

Adebisi told the court that Alade knew he was infertile and that he could not father a child, but still went ahead to make marriage proposal to her.

The plaintiff stated that she no longer loved the defendant and thus prayed for the dissolution of their wedlock.

Alade was absent in court despite being served court summonses

Adebisi in her testimony said, “My husband is deceitful and wicked.

“He gave a false impression about himself as he kept from me vital information concerning him.

“He laid the foundation of our marriage on lies.

“My husband throughout the time we courted, never gave a clue that he was married.

“We held a traditional wedding and he paid my bride price.

“He pretended to be single until the cat was let out of the bag a few months after we got married.

“I was shocked and disappointed on discovering this, but I later resigned to fate.

“I felt betrayed by my husband and this took its toll on our relationship.

“Our marriage became more challenging when it failed to produce children.

“This became a big concern to me because everyone believed I was barren. My husband displayed nonchalance towards our plight which got me irritated all the time.

“I insisted that my husband and I sought medical intervention and several tests were carried out on us.

“It was revealed during the medical procedures that my husband is infertile and will not be able to father a child.

“This truth stared me in the face that I would never have the experience of motherhood or be able to cuddle our child in my hands.

“The pain was too much for me to bear.

“I then understood my husband’s indifference to our predicament all along.

“I stopped loving my husband there and then and was bent on ending our relationship which was why I came to court.

“My lord, there is obviously no future staying married to my husband.

“He has marred my life and left me with a sorrowful heart.

“I, therefore, pray the court to rule that our union is dissolved.”

The president of the court, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case for cross examination and defence.

She ordered a fresh hearing notice to be issued and served on the defendant.
