Senator Ita-Giwa postpones birthday celebration over Wigwe’s death

•Late Herbert Wigwe and Florence Ita-Giwa

Former Senator and presidential adviser, Florence Ita-Giwa, has postponed celebrating her 78th birthday following the tragic helicopter crash that led to the demise of the Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Herbert Wigwe, his family members and others, in the United States.

A statement by the Bakassi leader, whose birthday falls on February 19, addressed to friends and family, indicated that an earlier planned low key and intimate celebration had to be put off.

She said the incident which also claimed her dear friend, Bimbo Ogunbajo, had dampened the mood necessitating the postponement.

She said: “My dear friends and family. I count myself blessed to have wonderful children, relatives, and friends like you who have stood with me through thick and thin over the years. No high point of my life would have been worth celebrating without you. I had planned a low-key but intimate celebration of my birthday this year.

“However, news of the untimely passing of Herbert Wigwe, a Financial TITAN, an Efik son, whose mother is an Efik woman and my dear friend Bimbo Ogunbanjo, a Corporate Law Giant, in that fatal helicopter crash has dampened my mood, and I am compelled to postpone celebrating my birthday.

“I urge you, my very dear friends and family, to bear with me even as I ask you to join me in praying for the repose of their souls.

She condoled with the families and friends of Mr. Wigwe, members of his family and others, that died in the unfortunate incident of February 9, 2024, in California, United States of America.
