Those behind my death rumour will not escape tragedy — Former President Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has debunked circulating social media rumors about his death, saying he is alive but those behind such information will not escape tragedy.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Old-Garage-Oke-Fia-Lameco road in Osogbo, Osun State, alongside Governor Ademola Adeleke, Obasanjo expressed shock and disappointment over the false reports, reports Nigerian Tribune.

Addressing the audience in Yoruba, he said, “I heard the rumour that I was dead. I saw it on the social media. I quickly told my children and my relations that it was not true and that I was alive. Those who want me dead, that is their wish but God still keeps me alive.”

Obasanjo condemned the spread of such harmful misinformation, questioning the motives behind it.

He added, “Why would anyone wish me dead? Those who harbour such thoughts will not escape tragedy themselves.

“This kind of rumour is not only disturbing but shows the extent to which some people misuse technology. It is unacceptable.”

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday commissioned the Okefia-Old Garage-Lameco Road in Osogbo, the State capital, constructed by Senator Ademola Adeleke-led administration, describing the governor as a practical administrator with good managerial skills.

He applauded the governor for doing a good job in the state and prayed against calamities, disasters, and misfortune for every soul that would be plying the road.
