Woman arraigned for attacking husband with machete

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 15, 2026 681 Minutes read0

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested and prosecuted a housewife, Olatunde Mary of Ilado II, in Igbatoro road, Akure, over alleged assault and wounding of her husband following a domestic dispute.

Ondo Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, informed our correspondent that the case was reported at its Gender-Based Violence Unit at the Command Headquarters, on June 3, 2026, reports Daily Trust.

Jimoh added that police detectives immediately commenced an investigation upon receiving the complaint.

Preliminary findings revealed that the incident occurred on June 2, 2026, at about 2:30 a.m. during a domestic altercation between the suspect and her husband, Olatunde Julius.

The police said during the dispute, the suspect assaulted the victim and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand, causing severe bodily injury.

The victim was immediately taken for medical treatment, where the extent of his injuries was assessed and documented.

Police investigators subsequently carried out a comprehensive investigation, obtaining statements from both the victim and the suspect, while gathering relevant evidence to support the case.

The Command stated that upon the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of a ‘prima facie’ case, the suspect was arrested and arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction for prosecution in accordance with the law.

The police said all forms of domestic violence constitute a serious threat to the safety, dignity and well-being of individuals, reiterating its commitment to ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable, regardless of gender, status or relationship with the victim.

The Command also urged members of the public to promptly report cases of domestic violence, abuse and other gender-related offences to the nearest police station or the Gender-Based Violence Unit for immediate intervention and necessary legal action.
