Yahaya Bello: Kila hails AGF Lateef Fagbemi

•Fagbemi, Kila, Bello

Renowned political economist and Commonwealth Institute Director, Prof. Anthony Kila, has hailed the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), for his statement about the ongoing attempt by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to arrest and interrogate the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The Frontier reports that the popular public affairs analyst, who called the AGF’s intervention timely and meaningful, made his position known while addressing an International Forum of African and Caribbean Political Scholars today during a webinar organised to discuss economic and developmental opportunities in African and Caribbean countries.

According to Prof. Kila: “The AGF’s intervention in the matter of a former governor evading arrest by the anti-corruption agency in Nigeria is both timely and meaningful. The Minister of Justice could have buried his head in the sand or acted quietly, his public statement sends a message saying we value justice”.

Prof. Kila was referring to the statement of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Fagbemi, who invited the embattled and former governor of Kogi State to “toe the path of decency.”

Kila, who admitted that he was not a fan of the current Minister of Justice, also noted that “he (Prince Lateef Fagbemi) was not my preferred choice for the job of AGF but with this singular act of defending the law, he has shown that he understands the importance of the rule of law in a system that wants work.”

The don urged scholars to not find what is wrong or proffer solutions but to also take time to highlight those who do good things.
