Yewa Council writes Police, DSS to stop unauthorised convention of students faction

The FrontierThe FrontierDecember 27, 2024 3302 Minutes read0

An attempt by a breakaway faction of the National Association of Yewa Students(NAYES) to organize an unauthorised convention billed for today Friday, December 27, 2024, in Ebute Igbooro-Yewa is being checkmated by concerned elders of Yewaland.

Under the aegis of Yewa People Development Council (YPDC), the elders which summoned a Consultative meeting in Ilaro yesterday, wrote the Police and Directorate of State Security(DSS) in Ogun State to thwart plans by some unauthorised persons to cause chaos in the Yewa enclave.

The YPDC which has the backing of the Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, has said no such Unauthorized Convention of the students body should hold because NAYES had only four days ago legitimately inaugurated a new Executive Council led by one Comrade Tella Faruq Abayomi to pilot its affairs for the next one year.

A press statement by the YPDC signed by its Secretary-General, Pastor Bamidele Obafemi Akinola, the Consultative meeting had in attendance Chairman of The Governing Council (TGC), Prof. Rahaman Adisa Bello and Chairman, Yewaland Security Assessment Committee(YESAC), Commodore Kunle Olawunmi, rtd.

The statement, which was widely circulated to the media, read: “The Yewa People Development Council wishes to inform the general public that NAYES is an appendage organization under YPDC as part of her Youth Leadership Nurturing Programme.

“NAYES has constantly been reporting her activities to YPDC and reciprocal advices and monitoring had been guaranteed by YPDC.

“NAYES has just recently concluded her convention and election of her new officers. Hitherto, NAYES) has recently and legitimately inaugurated new executive led by Comrade Tella Faruq Abayomi to pilot the affairs of her association for the2024/2025 tenure on the 23rd December, 2024.

“This election was conducted at the YPDC Secretariat at Ilaro-Yewa under the able representation of the Paramount Ruler of Yewaland.

“This recently inaugurated executives of the National Association of Yewa Students are the only legitimate and recognized body representing the interests of Yewa students and operates under the auspices of the Yewa People Development Council, which serves as the umbrella organization for all Yewa-related initiatives and associations.

“The information reaching us is that a parallel convention of a purported faction of the National Association of Yewa Students (NAYES) is to be held tomorrow, Friday 27th December 2024 at Ebute Igbooro-Yewa.

“We hereby urge the Kabiyesi of Ebute Igbooro-Yewa, His Royal Majesty, Alayeluwa Oba M. A Dosunmu, Elebute of Ebute-Igbooro-Yewa and all relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent this unauthorised convention.

“Allowing such a gathering would disrupt the established order and create division within the Yewa student community with the attendant breach of security.”
