5 influential people who abandoned X for Bluesky after Trump’s election victory

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 26, 2024 2501 Minutes read0

Following the election of former President Donald Trump as the 47th President of the United States on November 5, 2024, many influential individuals in the country have abandoned Elon Musk’s X platform for Bluesky.

Trump was declared the winner after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race, reports Nigerian Tribune.

The Republican candidate, who won the popular vote, secured 312 electoral votes, surpassing the required 270, while his Democratic opponent, Harris, garnered 226 electoral votes.

Trump’s victory has had significant repercussions for Musk’s X, prompting many users to leave the platform for Bluesky. Musk, a known ally of Trump, used X to promote and campaign actively for the Republican candidate. Weeks after the election, Musk has continued to use the platform to propagate Republican ideologies and viewpoints.

This shift has not been well-received by many users, particularly Democrats, who argue that the platform no longer fosters freedom of expression but instead serves as a vehicle for promoting Trump and Republican agendas. Consequently, some influential figures have abandoned X in favour of Bluesky.

In this article, our correspondent examines five Influential people who have abandoned X for Bluesky.

1. Mark Hamill

The actor, renowned for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker, announced his departure from X. Referring to himself as a “TwitterQuitter,” Hamill expressed his intention to engage more actively on Bluesky.

2. Alyssa Milano

The actress and activist has deleted her personal X account and redirected her followers to her Bluesky profile via her podcast’s social media pages.

3. Barbra Streisand

Streisand revealed that she would no longer post comments on X. Instead, she has chosen to share her views on Bluesky, marking her departure with the hashtag #TwitterExodus.

4. Don Lemon

The former CNN anchor voiced his disillusionment with X, particularly its new terms of service, which he criticised for favouring conservative legal perspectives. Lemon encouraged his followers to join him on Bluesky.

5. Guillermo del Toro

The Oscar-winning director announced that his X account would remain largely inactive as he increasingly engages with Bluesky.
