Minimum wage: Organised Labour, FG sign MoU on salaries adjustments

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 23, 2024 3051 Minutes read0

The committee on consequential salary adjustments recently constituted by the federal government arising from the new Minimum Wage Act 2024 has concluded its assignment with both parties’ signing a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU).

The federal government penultimate Friday formally inaugurated a 16-member consequential adjustments in salaries arising from provisions of the National Minimum Wage Act, 2024, of N70,000, approved by President Bola Tinubu, reports Daily Trust.

The Chairman of the committee and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack inaugurated the committee on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The president on July 18 this year approved the minimum wage for federal workers from N30,000 to N70,000.

Speaking after the signing weekend in Abuja, the HCSF, Mrs Walson-Jack, who doubled as chairman of the committee, commended members for the painstaking effort put in the task assigned.

“Both the trade union and the government sides have agreed on the Consequential Adjustments in Salaries arising from the new minimum wage of N70,000,” Walson-Jack said in a statement signed on Friday by Mrs Eno Olotu, Head, Information and Public Relations OHCSF.

She also said that all the members considered the MoU and have all signed copies, concluding the exercise with handing over copies to representatives on both sides.

She said the assignment is the shortest and most peaceful negotiations thus far, adding that the signed copy of the MoU would now be forwarded to the federal government for further action.

On his part, the National Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Benjamin Anthony, representing the trade union side, commended the HCSF and expressed satisfaction with the committee’s work.
