APC guber ticket: Zoning debate sparks tensions in Osun

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 6, 2025 2481 Minutes read0

The push for the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its 2026 governorship ticket to the West Senatorial District of Osun State has ignited disagreements among interest groups.

The Osun Progressives Independent Forum (OPIF) has rejected the idea, arguing that the agitation for zoning is driven by personal interests, reports The Nation.

In contrast, the Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG) has voiced strong support for zoning the ticket to the West.

In a statement signed by its Director of Public Engagement and Operations, Iwolode Samuel, COAIG emphasised that the move is rooted in fairness, equity, and balanced representation.

Samuel accused those opposing the zoning of prioritising personal agendas over the collective good of the party and the state.

“Our agitation doesn’t revolve around a personality; we are projecting an aspiration that considers the benefit of the majority over the comfort of an individual,” he said.

He further stressed that Osun West has been historically marginalised in the state’s governorship narrative, stating, “Our call for zoning the APC gubernatorial ticket to Osun West is not just a matter of local pride but a commitment to justice and equitable development for all parts of the state.”

COAIG also invited OPIF and other stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue to build consensus on the zoning issue, urging unity within the party to advance its broader goals.
