•Fire razes shops

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported a fire outbreak at the popular Itamaga Plank market, Ikorodu in Lagos State.

A statement by the agency’s Head, Public Affairs Unit, Nosa Okunbor today said it received distress calls and immediately activated its Lion Squad from the Agbowa Base.

Upon arrival at the market at about 4: 20 AM today, it was discovered that one of the shops was engulfed by fire.

However, after a thorough investigation, the agency revealed that the fire originated from a power surge.

“The prompt intervention and coordinated efforts of the LRT and LASG Fire & Rescue Service ensured the fire was contained and quickly subdued,” the statement read in part.

LASEMA said the fire consumed the shop, resulting in the partial loss of goods and properties.

It, however, added that no life was lost, and no injuries were sustained during the incident.

As of the time of filing this report, the fire had been completely extinguished and dampened.

The agency added that emergency responders have secured the entire area, and occupants were enlightened on the proper use of electric appliances.
