•Late Buhari and wife Aisha

Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, state governors, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, are among the dignitaries attending the one-year remembrance ceremony in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

Also present at the event are members of Buhari’s family, including former First Lady Aisha Buhari and the late president’s children, as well as former cabinet ministers and aides, past and serving governors, traditional and religious leaders, current and former lawmakers, retired and serving diplomats, and former service chiefs.

The remembrance programme is currently being held at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre, Asokoro, Abuja.

The solemn gathering is expected to feature prayers, tributes and reflections on the life, leadership and legacy of the late Nigerian leader.

A commemorative book titled Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari, which compiles messages from world leaders and other notable personalities, will also be unveiled during the event.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023 and earlier as military Head of State from 1983 to 1985, died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged illness.

He was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites shortly after his death, as the nation observed a period of mourning.
