•Governor Umo Eno

… reaffirms commitment to completing valuable inherited projects across state

TONY UDOH, Uyo reporting

Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has commissioned 4.8 KM of roads in Eket Local Government Area and once again, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing all valuable projects inherited from previous administrations for the benefit of the people.

Speaking at the commissioning of the 2.4km Ikot Akpa Ikpo – Urua Udo-Inyang Road and the 2.4km internal roads network within Mkpok Estate Phase I and Phase II, all in Eket Local Government Area, the governor said the people are at the center of his administration.

He said the 2.4km Ikot Akpa Ikpo – Urua Udo-Inyang Road is one of the roads inherited from the previous administration, and has been completed and commissioned by his administration, given its socio-economic impact on the people of the area and beyond.

The State Chief Executive said his administration has embarked on the construction of 38kms of roads in Eket which are at different stages of completion, and also promised an additional 12km of roads in the area to make it 50km.

He said the gesture was to appreciate the hospitality of the people of Eket towards him, and further demonstrates his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure across the state.

Governor Eno called on youths of the area and the state in general to take ownership of, and protect the roads and other public infrastructure within their vicinity.

At the commissioning of 2.4km internal roads network within Mkpok Estate Phases I and II, he said the estate was central to the people of Eket and likened it to Ewet Housing Estate in Uyo.

The governor described the Mkpok Estate roads as special to him, having lived and done business in the area for many years, stressing that the network of roads now constructed by the government will ensure smooth accessibility and movement within the famous estate.

He commended the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga, and his team, for a job well done, and announced plans to complete ongoing projects in the area, including the State Football Academy.

Giving an overview of the projects, Prof. Ibanga said the roads were well constructed with full outfall drains, and appreciated the governor for his commitment to completing projects and enhancing rural development.

Welcoming the governor on behalf of the people of Eket, the Eket Local Government Chairman, Hon. Akaninyene Tommy, thanked the governor for not disappointing Eket people, describing him as a well- deserved indigene of Eket whose administration’s remarkable imprints are registered through numerous projects executed in Eket.

Highlighting the economic value of one of the projects, (Ikot Ekpene Udo – Idung Iniang project), the chairman noted that the road has the capacity to link many communities, including Mbo, Esit Eket, and Eket Local Government Areas.

He appreciated the governor for improving the living standards of the people through strategic and qualitative projects, and assured the Governor of continued support of Eket people beyond 2027.

In his goodwill message at the commissioning, former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, appreciated the governor for the completion of the road project for the benefit of the people.

He noted that the project which was initiated by the previous administration in September, 2021 is one of the major economically-viable roads which serves as a link to many rural communities and access to the ancient traditional market, Urua Udo-Inyang.

He described Governor Eno as a pragmatic and visionary leader who has demonstrated quality leadership, maturity and deep sense of commitment in prioritizing the welfare of the people above political considerations.

He thanked the governor for applying his finishers anointing in completing some projects inherited from previous administrations, an action which, according to him, has deepened peace, unity, continuity and people’s confidence in his administration.

The governor who spent the entire day in Eket, also made a stop over to inspect Afaha Atai and Iseyiridua roads.
