The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has appointed Olatunji Olaiwola Fatai as the new Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, Fatai will replace AIG Moshood Jimoh, who has been redeployed to Zone 2, Lagos, following his recent promotion.

The IG stated that the redeployment is part of efforts to strengthen operations, enhance leadership capacity, and improve service delivery nationwide, reports The Nation.

Olaiwola is an old student of the famous Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, formerly Ahmadiyya College, Agege.

Fatai’s experience includes serving as Officer-in-Charge of the D4 unit at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, and as Area Commander for Area C, which covers Surulere and surrounding areas.

He also served as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) for Lagos State, making him familiar with the state’s policing needs.

Fatai was promoted to Commissioner of Police in October 2025 and has been described as a “quiet operator” with strong investigative instincts and command presence. He served as Commissioner of Police for the Eastern Ports Command.

The Lagos-born police officer holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Education from Lagos State University (1990).

He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies from Lagos State University.

CP Fatai also bagged a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, and a Master’s Degree in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University; MSc in Entrepreneurship from National Open University of Nigeria, and an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation and Criminal Intelligence from University of Lagos.
