PDP chieftain recounts experience in kidnappers’ den

Chief Benedict Akika, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, has described his time in captivity as one of the most challenging periods of his life.

Akika made his first public appearance since his release a few weeks ago over the weekend, attributing his freedom to the relentless efforts of security agencies and the concerned citizens of Nigeria, reports Nigerian Tribune.

He remarked that the experience in the abductors’ den would remain etched in his memory for a long time.

He specifically credited his release to the intervention of notable figures, including Oyo State governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and executive members such as Otunba Joseph Adeseye Famojuro, Alhaji Lekan Salawudeen, Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, and members of the Assembly. He also acknowledged the support from Hon. Sikiru Sanda-led 33 Local Government Chairmen, security agencies including the Commissioner of Police, the Nigerian Army, DSS, NSCDC, Amotekun, and the media in Oyo State.

Additionally, Akika expressed his gratitude to the elders and members of Omituntun Benedict Forum (OBF), The Great Fellow Club, the Nigeria Hairdressers/Beauticians Association in Oyo State, the Ibadan Vanguard Sister group, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), and all community and religious leaders nationwide for their support.

He further said, “I am grateful to be reunited with my family and loved ones. I sincerely extend my appreciation to my wife, Chief (Mrs.) Bidemi Akika, for her belief in God, patience, prayers, and understanding.”
