How I used stick to kill okadaman for his new motorcycle – Armed robber confesses

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 7, 2024 2552 Minutes read0

•The supects

An armed robber has explained how he used a stick to kill a commercial motorcycle rider (okadaman) for his new bike in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Peter Samuel, 38, leader of the three-man robbery gang paraded at the Kwara Police Command headquarters today, told journalists how he beheaded a commercial motorcyclist (okadaman), Rafiu Akano, reports Vanguard.

He said the deed was done inside a bush in Okeoyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state in order to dispossess him of his property.

Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command nabbed the three suspects for beheading Akano after snatching his motorcycle, on November 4.

Confession

Samuel told journalists: “When we disembarked from the motorcycle, I looked round and found one big stick.

“While my colleague was discussing with him I violently hit him on the head with the stick from the back. He fell down.

“Then I used a sharpened cutlass to severe his head.”

The victim was contracted to take them to a designated place far inside the bush, close to a river. That was where he was eventually killed.

However, as they fled the scene, Peter Samuel’s mobile phone fell off, unknown to him. This aided the Police in arresting the suspects.

‘Oga sent me’

The suspect said he was lured to commit the act by one ‘Oga’, who told him the business would fetch them big money.

While parading the suspects, the state police commissioner, Mr. Victor Olaiya, said: “On November 4, at about 9: 09 p.m., a report was received from the residents of Asunlere community, Oke-Oyi, Ilorin, Kwara State.

“Three men, namely Abdulrasheed Ola Sheu, Ismail Muhammed, and others, arrived at Oke-Oyi Police Division to report the discovery of a headless body lying near a stream within the area.

“Upon receiving the report, detectives were swiftly dispatched to the scene. Photographic evidence was captured, revealing a significant mark of violence around the neck, indicating that the head was severed.

“The body was subsequently evacuated and deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital morgue, pending an autopsy.

How mobile phone gave suspects away

“At the crime scene, detectives recovered an android phone, which was suspected to belong to one of the assailants.

“Further search revealed that the deceased’s phone was also found on him.

“Detectives intensified efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. These efforts yielded results in the early hours of November 6.

“During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they disposed of the victim’s severed head in a nearby river.

“The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for thorough investigation

“Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses. The suspects will subsequently be arraigned in court.”
