Protesting residents block Benin-Agbor Expressway, seek govt’s intervention

•Blocked Benin-Agbor road

Residents and truck drivers in Benin City, the Edo State capital, barricaded the Benin-Agbor Road, a situation that has brought vehicular movement along the road to a standstill.

An articulated truck driver, who spoke to our correspondent, said the federal or state government should fix the road, insisting the road is too bad to be ignored, reports Channels TV.

He insisted that if the federal government did not fix the road, state government should intervene and make the road motorable.

A couple of bystanders, who spoke behind camera, insisted they knew it was only a matter of time for this outburst to occur and they aren’t taken by surprise, saying the road is actually too bad.

They said road users have shown incredible patience with the authorities over the state of the Benin-Agbor road.

A businessman in the area said his business has taken a hit due to the state of the road and businesses have taken a serious turn for the worse and some businesses are folding up already.

A volunteer traffic warden well known in the area alleged marginalization of Edo State by the federal government as the reason the road has been ignored.
