Securities and Exchange Commission increases capital requirement for market operators, sets June 2027 deadline

•Securities and Exchange Commission headquarters, Abuja

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced increased minimum capital requirements for all capital market operators (CMOs) to enhance market resilience and investor protection.

Under the new policy, tier 2 issuing houses with underwriting must now have a capital base of N7 billion, up from N200 million, while the requirement for trustees has increased to N2 billion, up from N300 million.
