Spurs battle West Ham for Nigeria’s Onyedika

Tottenham Hotspur have joined the race to sign midfielder Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge, intensifying Premier League interest in the highly-rated Nigerian player.

Brugge are reported to be preparing for what could be a defining summer transfer window, with several of their top performers attracting interest from major European clubs following a successful 2024/25 season, reports The PUNCH.

Among the names generating the most attention is Onyedika, whose impressive performances both in the UEFA Champions League and with the Nigeria national team have seen his stock rise significantly, according to Belgian outlet Voetbalkrant.

While the club have multiple players linked with exits, including Ferran Jutgla, Maxim De Cuyper and Christos Tzolis, the report cited Onyedika as the player who appears to be the most sought-after.

Reports from Transferfeed yesterday indicate that the 24-year-old has become a serious target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The London club are now believed to be monitoring Onyedika closely, potentially disrupting a previously reported move to fellow Premier League side, West Ham United, and Serie A giant, AC Milan.

“Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have added Raphael Onyedika to their shortlist,” Transferfeed reported.

“They join AC Milan and West Ham United, the latter of whom were previously believed to be close to securing his signature.”

Earlier in the window, West Ham were said to be leading the race for Onyedika’s signature, with talks reportedly at an advanced stage.

The Hammers have been in the market for a central midfielder, with Czech international Tomas Soucek possibly on his way out. Onyedika was being lined up as a direct replacement. However, the fresh interest from Spurs could complicate matters.

Despite being under contract with Brugge until 2027, Onyedika is reportedly valued at around €20m.

The Belgian club appear to be bracing for his potential departure, with further reports indicating they have already lined up a replacement in Hamburg’s Ludovit Reis.
